Course
Development

I started work at 21CLS as a Course Developer while earning my Bachelors in English. 21CLS was a small business that provided instructional design services, particularly for online learning. By the time of its closure, it had three departments: Course Development, ISD, and Media. I served in each role while I was there.

Responsibilities: eLearning Development, analysis, content writing, resource collection, research
Target Audience: Students earning their Master’s degree online at Walden University. I worked on a large variety of courses with varying subjects, from nursing to supply chain management to business
Tools Used: Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Walden library databases
Client: Laureate Education/Walden University

Overview

As a Corse Developer, I worked under two more senior members of the team. I assisted them with content writing, reading resources, and writing summaries for insertion into courses. I also researched articles for use within the courses.

Instructional Design Analysis

I assisted the Course Developers by taking the learning objectives set out by the course instructors and aligning them to the assignments and resources used within the course.

If the learning objectives weren't being met by the assignments or resources, I would make suggestions on how to improve them, or how to tweak an assignment in order to make it fit with the learning objectives.

As I progressed in my role as a Course Developer, my attention to detail was noted, and I was given the opportunity to help in the ISD department.

Conclusion

As a Course Developer, I learned the importance of setting out strong learning objectives and making sure those objectives were being met within the course. If assignments had nothing to do with the learning objectives, I helped add content or made suggestions that shifted the assignment more toward the objectives.

My attention to detail made me very appealing as a candidate for the ISD department.
