Marley Nox

Writer and Digital Media Generalist

About

Marley Nox is a pseudonym for Megen Nelson, an enthusiastic autodidact and creative weird-person who lives in Central Florida. Growing up on the Space Coast instilled in her a great love of science fiction and fantasy, and as she watched shuttles ascend the heavens, she dreamed of one day building a world where dragons piloted space ships. So naturally she became an artist!

Megen holds a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Central Florida, and works as a technical editor by day, illustrator by night.

Megen has done work in technical writing and editing with NASA, instructional design with 21CLS, and creative and freelance writing and design. She has illustrated for children's books, book covers, and independent comics, and won the prestigious Illustrators of the Future award. She's also worked in digital media production for education, editing audio, video, and animating characters and motion graphics in Adobe After Effects and Captivate. She's even dabbled in web design and development for education, as well as game design using the Unity game engine and the Ren'Py Visual Novel engine.

In lieu of gathering more student loan debt, she regularly takes college extension classes to keep her skills sharp. Such classes include writing workshops at UCLA, art classes at Stanford, animation classes at Orlando's Elite Animation Academy, and lessons from Toniko Pantoja, along with various self-paced courses offered by individuals such as Aaron Blaise, co-director for Disney's Brother Bear.

When Megen's not working, she can be found reading, playing video games, watching movies, looking at pictures of cute animals, hanging out with family and friends, or working on one of her many many creative side projects.
